1. Digital Wallet vs. Physical Card Mismatch (Apple Pay / Google Pay)
This is the most common reason Upside fails to match a purchase automatically. When you pay at the gas pump using Apple Pay or Google Pay, your phone generates a Virtual Device Account Number that does not match the physical 16-digit card number saved in your Upside Wallet.
Because Upside verifies transactions by matching the last 4 digits reported by the merchant processor, virtual card numbers fail automated verification.
The Fix: Always insert or tap your physical card at the pump, or save your device's virtual account number as an additional payment method inside the Upside Wallet settings.
2. The 4-Hour "Check In" Countdown Expired
When you tap "Claim" on a gas station offer, Upside starts a strict 4-hour countdown clock. If you claim an offer in the morning and do not swipe your card until five hours later, the offer quietly expires in the background. The transaction processes at full price, and no rebate triggers.
Only claim an offer when you are physically arriving at the station or actively parking at the pump.
3. Stacking Gas Loyalty Points (Kroger, Shell Fuel Rewards)
Upside allows you to stack its offers with supermarket gas points, but there is an important caveat: Upside calculates cash back on the final net gallon price, not the original pump price.

4. How to Submit a Manual Receipt Appeal
If an offer disappeared or failed to track after 48 hours:
- Always request a printed paper receipt at the pump before driving away.
- Open the Upside app and navigate to Profile > Help > Contact Support.
- Select "Missing Cash Back" and attach a photo of your printed receipt. The receipt must clearly show the date, time, gallons pumped, and the last 4 digits of the card used. Upside support typically credits eligible transactions within 3 to 5 business days.
